This book will forever be a classic for me. It makes me feel connected to my ancestry and in ways that I didn’t know existed. This isn’t my first or second time reading it, but I fall in love with the story every time.

مش قادرة أستوعب إزاي جت لبني آدم فكرة أنه يعامل أخوه البني آدم على إنه "شيء"؟؟؟!!

I loved this book. A compelling read and fascinating historical novel. Wonderful!

When I finished, I immediately started over and re-read the first chapters about Aminata's childhood. I've never done that before. I needed to know how the story started, because the length and breadth of the story -- and of all the lives told in this brilliant book -- needed a happy bookend of the beginning.

Must-read, and perhaps re-read at least once, in this troubled world. Lawrence Hill has done readers a great service by breaking down the complexity of the slave trade and entering the knowledge into our hearts as well as our minds.

I thought it was an awesome book. I adore Aminata and found similarities between us both. It was lengthy at times, but I loved her story.

The life of the main character is an amazing recount of recilliance and perseverance that no normal human shows.  Lawrence Hill is one of Canadas most outstanding authors and a joy to read.
