Usually any description that involves something along the lines of a “haunting, epic novel” “spanning the generations…” is a huge turnoff for me, but I am SO glad I read this one!
Wow wow wow, The Last Russian Doll was so good! I absolutely could not put this book down and busted through it in one day.
It is helpful to know a bit of Russian history and sociology (the lead up to the Russian Revolution through the aftermath of the fall of the Soviet Union) in order to get the most out of this story, but I think it can stand on its own quite well even for people who are unfamiliar with this part of Russia’s history. If the story wasn’t so strongly based on the very real political, social, and personal ramifications of actual historical events, it would almost be too strange to believe at times.
Although it’s not the author’s first work of fiction, it is her first published novel and it is an incredible debut novel!

Wow! I was a bit fan of this book. It probably helps that I find the last 100+ years of Russian history pretty interesting. This book has it all though -- history, romance, supernatrual, mystery!
Maybe I just missed it, but I still don't fully understand why Raisa's dad and sister were murdered.

This was a very slow burn. The characters were interesting but not too deep. I wanted to know the story but it wasn’t a page turner. It fluctuates in between two time periods with a bit of mystery.
