I’m not familiar with much Russian history, and I found The Last Russian Doll fascinating. The story spans multiple generations of women, beginning in 1917 with Tonya and ending in 1991 with Rosie. In between, the reader learns a remarkable amount of Russian history, all while Rosie is on a quest to find out who murdered her father and sister 10 years prior in 1981, which caused her and her mother to flee to London.
It's a very strong story, combining elements of historical fiction and mystery while bringing the reader along for quite the ride.
I will say, go into this knowing it’s much more historical fiction than thriller, so if you’re looking for a straight mystery, this probably isn’t the book for you. But it’s a fantastic historical fiction story.
Thank you Berkley Publishing and NetGalley for the eARC!

Beautifully written, a compelling story that tie together nicely at the end.
Great Book and Education of the 1917 Russian Revolution
This is one of those books, once you finish, you want to reread it now you know how the characters develop and change. A very interesting story interweaving 3 generations. Raisa/Rosie, follows a story written by her great-grandmother to research and react to her own genealogy through fairy tales, porcelain dolls, love, death, and war. You won't want to put it down.

I really enjoyed this book. It was beautifully written and gripping, having an almost thriller-like story unravelling but with romance and history intertwined. This story will stick with me.
Could’ve used some context, and one or two less characters. It got a bit long at times- and I found myself not paying a whole lot of attention to the sometimes confusing plot and cast of characters. At one point I spent a bit of time trying to figure out peoples ages and some context in the beginning or at least describing characters might have been helpful.
I haven’t ever struggled with a book as much as I have with this one! Chapters alternates between Rosie (1991) traveling from England to Russia to work as a research assistant but really trying to learn about the murder of her father and sister 15-years earlier. The other chapters alternate between Valentin & Tonya (young lovers meeting in the 1910s - 1948). Lots of gals and confusing points. How Rosie meets Eduardo at the start of part II is never explained and confusing. Awkward ending for Alexy.
