Literally could not tell you a single thing about this book. It was never gripping and the flow was that of a dried up creek. Maybe my downfall was that I listened to it rather than physically read it. This further solidified that I despise History and War genres. If it wasn't for my work bookclub I would dnf'd this in chapter 2. I probably still should have.

3.5 ⭐️ I loved the storyline. I loved learning about Russian history that you don’t often hear about. I did, however, find this book pretty hard to follow. Between the Russian names, all of the nicknames for said characters, the different timelines, and the many different places described, it was confusing and I feel like I couldn’t grasp the whole story.

2.5 stars round up. I just finished this book and will probably amend this review later, but my first feelings are I didn’t love this. It was OK as far as historical fiction/dual timeline books go but sometimes it was so confusing. I don’t know if it’s because I listened to the audio and the names in Russian were unfamiliar so I had a hard time keeping track of the characters but I often found myself wondering, “who the heck are they talking about”? The story had a good ending, and the author did tie up all the loose ends nicely. I just struggled to finish the book.
