I learned far more than I thought I would. Some very interesting reflections that I hadn’t considered before and it has certainly given me a newfound perspective.

Made me laugh out loud, as well as feel incredibly sad and angry. He covers so much history and context in a way that is relevant. However, the book is a little dated now (which t was published in 2018) and so the final chapter seems quite out of touch. Audible performance was excellent too, if you are considering the audio book.

This is a MUST read. This book has opened my eyes to the British (and American) Empire, media and our “heroes” to learn not to take what we see at first glance. There's no other way to say it, read this book !!

An interesting mix of autobiography and polemic. I enjoyed it but at times I thought it was a little too unstructured and chaotic and prone to heading off at tangents. Perhaps that’s the nature of the autobiographical part. I’ve heard Akala debating and he seems much clearer and focussed and more compelling in person. Clearly a very bright guy

this book is incredibly informative and i always love reading books on race and colonisation from a british perspective. there’s a lot to learn in here and some chapters are extremely interesting and have a lot of knowledge packed in. i will say though, that some chapters towards the end aren’t as focused as some of the earlier chapters, and at some points i was a little confused as to how we ended up where we did. with that being said, it’s a really valuable read and i’ll recommend it for years to come.
