This one fell a little short for me, but I think I had too high of expectations for it after reading [b:Sadie|34810320|Sadie|Courtney Summers|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1556559178l/34810320._SY75_.jpg|56026767]. I just didn't connect with the characters or the story in The Project like I did with Sadie.

My biggest complaint about the story is Lo's character development.
SpoilerShe practically does a complete 180º in the blink of an eye. I had such a hard time believing that, after years of fighting to find her sister and hating The Unity Project, she would just embrace Lev and the cult. Plus her whole relationship with Lev just made my skin crawl and I really hated that whole part.

The book does have a few good things going for it though. First off, the topic was interesting. I think this is the first YA fiction book I've read about cults, so I appreciated the different subject matter. And true to Courtney Summers form, the plot is dark and twisted and has a shocking ending. If you're a fan of Courntey Summers or are really interested by cults, this one is worth a read.

I was so excited to read this one, because I liked the story and I like Courtney Summers’s writing. The first half was intriguing, slow-paced but really compelling, but then it just fell flat in the middle, continuing to the end. It had the potential to be way more interesting than what it turned out to be, so I’m disappointed.

I received an eARC courtesy of Wednesday Books/St. Martin's Press via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

First off, I'm throwing out a question about whether I would classify this as YA book-I think after reviewing it that I would be more inclined to view this as a New Adult.

Everything about this book was perfectly fine, but with all the hype surrounding it, I had pretty high expectations for a gripping thriller about a cult. But what I read was a bit of a letdown if I am completely honest. The writing was what I would expect from Summers, but the plot just seemed a bit sparse.

Overall, I just didn't find anything terribly thrilling about this thriller.

Courtney Summers depicts heart wrenching tragedy in such a raw and poetic way. She did this in Sadie and again in The Project.

I’m completely lacking in sufficient words to describe this novel so I won’t try. 5/5 stars.

A book about a cult, what's not to love we'll....in this case a bit

The story started off very very slow for me and it never took off. Were taken into the life of Lo Denhman and the life she lived apart from her sister Bea who joined an organization/cult who called themselves The Unity Project. Lo is a writer herself and she is dramatically taken by a man who approaches her claiming that his son who was killed by The Unity Project.

Soon, where diving into the depths of this organization with Lo and she can't figure out what's real/true and what's not.

What I loved about this one? Summers definitely takes you down a dark corner of the reality of how dark and manipulating and scary a cult can be when you're sucked in.

I just felt that I never really connected with the story because of Lo. It just was extremely slow and felt like nothing was happening until the 80 percent mark and then BAM it all went too fast and felt extremely rushed and was predictable
