I went into Part of Your World attempting to keep my expectations in check. I'd seen all of the glowing reviews and best-of-the-year lists, but I also knew my tastes. The romance genre remains one I'm extremely picky about as I need plot depth and not just a HEA. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down.
The small town setting absolutely captured my heart - the rural setting, the people, the sense of community - all of it. Daniel was so swoon worthy, coming across generous, caring and kind. Heck, I was invested as soon as the baby goat was introduced. Alexis' character development from start to end was refreshing. Being narrated in split POVs really allowed me to get into both main characters' heads. And the cast of supporting characters, from Daniel's friends (Doug, Brian and Liz) to Alexisβs best friend, Bri, really shone bright.
While I loved so much about this book, the romance came off a little too insta-lovey for my tastes. There were also parts that were a little over-the-top dramatic (the gala scene at the end anyone?), yet I didn't mind. I absolutely loathed Alexis' father (the author's intent) to the point I wanted to skip his scenes. And of course, the lack of communication grated on me at times, even though I know it played a central role in the unfolding of the plot.
I came away pleasantly surprised by Part of Your World and look forward to exploring more of Abby Jimenez's work. I'm pleased to learn some of the side characters will be getting their own stories in upcoming releases. I like my romance with depth, and this one certainly delivers.

I LOVED this. Abby Jimenez is such a wonderful writer. She makes her characters real and likable at the same time, the conflicts real, doesnβt increase the drama for effect, and manages to make the book still a fairly lighthearted read. The characters feel real and have real, life changing problems and choices, and I spend most of the book feeling uplifted and hopeful. I hope she never stops writing, and I have decades of her books to enjoy.
