Absolutely lovely queer found family story!
Because it is not about blood relations, but about the ones who, willingly, become your family. Perfect reading for this time of the year.

Look, I wasn’t even going to write a review for this short story. It’s under 100 pages and despite knowing I love Nathan Burgoine’s writing, I didn’t expect it to be review-worthy being so short.

I was wrong. Y’all need to read Nathan Burgoine’s Little Village works. It’s a lot of short stories and novella’s and I’ve only read three of them so far and I’ve fallen in love with all of them.

Somehow in under 100 pages, Burgoine made me laugh, cry, and feel that warm, happy feeling spread throughout my chest. His characters are so full of life and the more I piece together of this shared universe, the more I want to say “fuck it” and buy the rest.

I first met Nick and Ru when I read an e-ARC of Felix Navidad earlier this month. The book centred on different characters, but it was partially set at Nick and Ru’s wedding. This short story is their romance told over 15 years via Christmas snapshots and it’s absolutely beautiful and wholesome and heartwarming.

I seriously can not recommend these stories enough.

I absolutely loved this one. It's just a perfect package wrapped in a gorgeous bow, a little bit scuffed and faded at the edges because someone has carefully folded it year on year.

This is everything I love about Christmas, it's about family being who you choose to spend time with because of love, whether they be bound by blood or not. It's about recognising the best gifts aren't those with the vast price tag, but the ones carefully picked out to bring joy and happiness (and okay sometimes they do come with a big shiny price tag too).

Fifteen years is a long time to run a short story over but it absolutely works and I loved all the five friends and their associated other halves (but not one particular person, who was an arse).

I'd love to read more and more Christmases with this bunch.

#ARC received from the publishers Nine Star Press as part of the 2017 Holiday series in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Hits all the emotional buttons. There’s a lot in here that made me tear up, because of the time in our life/society it recalls. The characters are VERY real. It was not what I was expecting (festive fluff), but so much more worth the time to read. Pass the tissues.

A lovely own-voices MM romance where, over the course of years (told through the Christmas celebration of each year) a strong found found family grows and the protagonist finds what's been right under his nose all along. Full of good feels.

I loved how each chapter jumped from Christmas to Christmas. All of the story and none of the angst. So very fun to read.
