the setting and a lot of the imagery was really great and interesting. the anticipation of something about to happen it what kept me reading, but overall i just don’t understand what the point of the miniaturist was or like just the plot in general. it felt like it was leading nowhere and ended of pretty much leading nowhere

Historien fangede mig ikke.
Jeg var komplet ligeglad med karakteren og historen.

A nice sequel to the Miniaturist but lacks the first book’s Gothic feel. A character driven story strong on the characters’ relationships to each other but the story lacks depth and dragged in the middle. It picked up at the end though.

I felt the same way about this one as I did the first book. What was the point of the miniaturist?! Why does she exist? She's even less relevant in this story than the last. These books could have been such brilliant historical dramas if they were just about the Brandt family. By cramming in the miniaturist story line, she looses so much substance from the other characters.
