What the heck just happened??? Wow that was insane. I’m gonna be honest the middle dragged for me but it did pick up again which was good. Still wow that ending was intense.

This was soooooo fun and easy to read! Love Gideon, love the chemistry. The dynamic was also very fun, I was pleasantly surprised by a lot of storyline and plot points going in unexpected places.
All in all, a good time!

I went into this read knowing the hype and trying to keep realistic expectations. Well, it is worth the hype! I truly enjoyed every moment of this book. It hooked me immediately, and I didn't want to stop listening. The whole book had a witchy dystopian vibe, and I didn't know I needed that in my life, but I do!
Here is why I loved it so much. It was simple. I don't mean the characters were flat because they weren't. I don't mean the plot was predictable because it wasn't. I just mean that the book did not need 150 pages of world building and a complex magic system to create a story that had me ignoring responsibilities so I could finish it. It was clean and polished, making it easy to get lost in the story.
I loved both Rune's and Gideon's backstories. They lead into their characters' present choices perfectly, and it creates such meaningful animosity between the two enemies. I appreciated that the right and wrong in the story grows more complex through the story as we get to know the characters, their pasts, and their motivations. It makes the story all the more intriguing when there doesn't seem to be a clear evil.
I honestly can't think of anything bad to say about this book, and I can't wait to read the sequel!

Solid book. Not super spicy but I really loved the magic and world in this. I also love the cat and mouse game they play throughout the book.
