~3/5
I didn't follow most of Naruto. I read several of the beginning volumes, and then I read a couple of random volumes later. I was never very into the series. But I'm willing to give Boruto a chance.
The artwork is done by someone else in this series, and it's just okay. I don't mind seeing what the characters have grown up into and what their kids are like—but then again, I don't actually know what they were doing at the end of the original series.
We're following Boruto here, and he's very clearly an angsty teen. He believes that his father is awful because he's always working and never pays his kids any attention. And, to be fair, he does make a clone go to a birthday party. Whilst all of this is going on, Orochimaru is also up to some bad things. I am intrigued by what is going on with Mitsuki, though, and would like to see more of that.
This was an okay start to a series. I didn't mind reading, but it wasn't great. It's not really my kind of series, though.
A review copy was provided by the publisher, VIZ Media, for an honest review. Thank you so, so much!

The Good: Introduction of new characters and the ties to characters from Naruto, dialogue, pacing and art!
The Rough: This is more of a personal thing, but I don’t know if I liked how different the Naruto characters looked in this series (I didn’t like Sasuke’s the most) vs how they looked at the end of Naruto before the time skip to Boruto timeline. I’m sure it’ll just grow on me.
Will I Continue Reading the Series?: Yes! Even just the first volume got me hooked so I’m interested to read more!

I was following the story until the last chapter and then I wasn’t sure what direction it was going or who was who. The artwork felt flat and like a coloring book vs action driven with lots of movement and dialogue. I probably won’t continue this and have my students tell me what’s up if I need to know more.

SERIES REVIEW
Update 12/28/20
Manga Status: Ongoing - Monthly
My Reading Status: Hold
Read Overall: 2 Volumes
Genre: Battle(?) Shonen
Current Overall Series Rating: 3.25
Thoughts: Ok so Boruto, where to start. I'll just be straight up and say that after reading the first 2 volumes, I am not impressed. You can't help but compare the series to Naruto right off the bat, and even the manga itself in the first chapter states that this is not the story of Naruto, but instead of Boruto. Despite that, I still can't help but draw comparisons or find parts that I dislike here that were better in Naruto. I have heard that the manga does become more its own and "get better" later on, but right now I think I'm just not willing to jump into it quite yet. I will probably hold off on reading this series until I finish some other series I have first.
OLD REVIEW
Manga Status: Ongoing
My Reading Status: Currently Reading
Published English Volumes/Chapters Read: 1 volume - 9 chapters
Chapters Read Overall: 9
Genre: Battle(?) Shonen
Current Overall Series Rating: N/A
Thoughts: I picked up the 2nd volume online recently, so I'm still giving this a trial run. I binge read Naruto a few days ago since I wanted to experience it all again, and I decided to read my 1 volume of Boruto. So far I don't like it or hate it. I feel like I don't care about any of the new characters as I seem to only get interested whenever characters from the original series pop up (Rock Lee, Sai, Sasuke, Naruto, Shikamaru, Orochimaru, etc). We'll see how this goes.

So far, it’s an interesting sequel to the main series. I mean, it has a lot of nostalgia going for it for sure. I want to know what happens in the next chapter of Team 7’s lives. (Wasn’t sure I was going to read this after surviving the emotional turmoil of Naruto but here we are???)
I like the characters thus far but I do want to see how they develop beyond their parents’ shadows. I really like how the children of Team 7 do seem to have some different ambitions from their parents (though I believe those ambitions will probably evolve). It’s interesting to dee new dynamics developing as well.
Do I care about Kaguya’s clan and whatever silly nonsense they’re up to??? I guess time will tell??
Anyway, those are my thoughts so far! Looking forward to reading more!

I was curious enough about the future of the Naruto universe to read the first volume, and I liked it enough that I might continue reading it.
