The story itself was kind of everywhere but it was a quick little read.
Was mir wirklich gut gefiel.

This was so close to a 5 but I have to go with 4.5*, I wish there was a little bit more clarity with the time skips and ages of characters! Because I wasn't sure what age we started at I never knew how old they were after each skip
This was a book that I was so incredibly excited to read mostly due to how beautiful it looked the media hyping it up beforehand.
And now I'm glad I read it. But I didn't quite adore it as much as I hoped I would.
Now, this could be because I don't actually know Les Mis. At all. I recognised some of the names but that's it. So I didn't feel a strong connection. But I did grow to love the characters. Especially Ettie and Montparnasse.
Speaking of Montparnasse, I did love him and Nina together. I'm a big fan of assassin love interests. But i think I mostly shipped it as I love the idea? There wasnt enough interaction for me to really feel it. And it wasnt down to the time skips because you see how her relationships with others have grown as there's enough scenes. I just lomd of wanted more of them.
But I did love the world building. The idea of the miracle court was fascinating and I adored getting a peek at them with the meetings and the like. The stories at the beginning of each section helped with world building too and were such a fun addition. I definitely want to see more of this world.
So I definitely would recommend this book but I would say look more into it than just how stunning the cover is.

I am a huge les mis fan and its probably why I adored this book. The little easter eggs from the original kept me grinning the whole way through!
Never before have I agreed with an author's note more - Marius Sucks and Eponine deserves better! She definitely got it in this book!
The writing style was lyrical and beautiful, the world building was dark, gritty and encapsulating! This book was *chef's kiss* for me. One of my favourites of the year!

I grabbed this book because of the ‘failed French Revolution’ meets fantasy plot. This book took me a while to really get into, I ended up reading the full story in 14 days. I didn’t feel compelled to pick up the book and read it and at times it was almost like a chore (for the first half of the book really) once we met the Dead Lord things did start to pick up for me, however ultimately I found I didn’t really care about the characters and if they survived or not unlike so many other books. I will probably read the second book to satisfy my curiosity and I hope it meets the expectations I had for the first book. Overall, I enjoyed the world building and the fast paced movement of certain events but the overall story felt messy and monotonous.

It was entertaining enough to read, but it lacked character developmen and world building. The writing was... meh. And the timeline was all over the place, making it hard to follow.
It was good enough for a debut. I'm curious about the next book. I think I'll hate it or love it, not in between like this. I can totally understand the three and two stars. I was mad at the book enough times to give it 2 🌟, but since it got me interested throughout the whole book, I'm bumping it up to a three 🌟

This was so thrilling!!!
Now, I wasn't sure I was even going to read this and let me tell you for why!
This book is being pushed as like a Les Misérables retelling. I adore Les Misérables and I don't always love retellings, especially when it's a retelling of something I love, so I had made the executive decision not to read this.
Then, Goldsboro had it as one of their Book of the Month picks and I subscribe so the decision was taken out of my hands. It arrived. It's freaking gorgeous and it kept looking at me from my bookshelf and on a whim I picked it up and COULD. NOT. PUT. IT. DOWN.
What you need to know: This is really not a retelling. At best I think it can be described as inspired by Les Misérables. The setting is Les Misérables and there are some characters with the same name as characters in Les Misérables and that's kind of where it ends.
The Court of Miracles itself was fascinating. Nina was an amazing heroine and the very definition of the 'the heroine saves herself'. The story was a bullet train and I loved how there was no waiting about for things to happen. She decided. She did.
I've seen some reviews that talk about the fact that they didn't love the time jumps but I actually loved them, they kept the story barreling along at breakneck speed and for me made section four that much more thrilling because we were only getting snippets of what she'd been doing for two years and those snippets were giving us a glimpse at the plan as a whole. I actually thought it was rather clever. I sometimes find books to be all tell and no action and this was all about the action. I was out of breath after it!
A super strong debut (I mean seriously, can we talk about how amazing it is that this is a debut?!) and I can't wait to get more from the Court of Miracles but I'm also really excited to read more from this author in general.
