This was so thrilling!!!
Now, I wasn't sure I was even going to read this and let me tell you for why!
This book is being pushed as like a Les Misérables retelling. I adore Les Misérables and I don't always love retellings, especially when it's a retelling of something I love, so I had made the executive decision not to read this.
Then, Goldsboro had it as one of their Book of the Month picks and I subscribe so the decision was taken out of my hands. It arrived. It's freaking gorgeous and it kept looking at me from my bookshelf and on a whim I picked it up and COULD. NOT. PUT. IT. DOWN.
What you need to know: This is really not a retelling. At best I think it can be described as inspired by Les Misérables. The setting is Les Misérables and there are some characters with the same name as characters in Les Misérables and that's kind of where it ends.
The Court of Miracles itself was fascinating. Nina was an amazing heroine and the very definition of the 'the heroine saves herself'. The story was a bullet train and I loved how there was no waiting about for things to happen. She decided. She did.
I've seen some reviews that talk about the fact that they didn't love the time jumps but I actually loved them, they kept the story barreling along at breakneck speed and for me made section four that much more thrilling because we were only getting snippets of what she'd been doing for two years and those snippets were giving us a glimpse at the plan as a whole. I actually thought it was rather clever. I sometimes find books to be all tell and no action and this was all about the action. I was out of breath after it!
A super strong debut (I mean seriously, can we talk about how amazing it is that this is a debut?!) and I can't wait to get more from the Court of Miracles but I'm also really excited to read more from this author in general.

You have to completely seperate it from what it has been compared to.. don't think of six of crowns, les miserables or anything else. Just enjoy it for it what it is, a good story with good characters. I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the next one.
I liked the idea, but I felt like everything with the Les Mis references was annoying and pulled me out of the story. Honestly if the Les Mis stuff was removed, I would have had a much better time!
Not the right time to read it. Couldn’t get into it
I really thoroughly enjoyed The Court of Miracles. It was an easy and enjoyable read. This story can be read on its own with no prior knowledge of Les Mis, however if you are familiar with Les Mis I would say you would definitely enjoy a lot of the little easter eggs woven throughout the story.
One thing I particularly enjoyed from this story was the emphasis on friendship and family. Most of the story actually focused on platonic relationships such as those rather than romantic ones. So, if you're looking for the rare YA novel where romance is hardly involved, this is for you. Romantic possibilities for the FMC are explored, but just barely.
This falls short of a five star read for me because of the conflict resolution. With the build-up and history given, I was left feeling unsatisfied by the ending. Hell, I felt like the villain was cheated out of a better ending. We all were. I also have heard rumors that this is the first in a series, which I would be willing to explore further, however I would not say this ends on any sort of cliffhanger.
