This is such a cute story. I loved hearing Eve and Josie fall in love. I connect with Eve, because I understand the fear of losing someone. Highly recommend

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE AUTHOR THROUGH ONE OF A VARIETY OF SOURCES. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

I don't normally read f/f romance, but I do enjoy this author's work, so I thought I'd give this one a try. I was pleasantly surprised by this book!

I really enjoyed the premise of the story, as it reminded me a lot of Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey, which I enjoy watching on occasion. It made for an interesting setting for the romance!

I especially loved Josie! She was spunky and kind-hearted, true to herself, loyal and just all around awesome! Eve was very off putting to me, I found it very hard to connect with her as a character. I get that it was because of the pain of her past, but she wasn't a very warm person at all, and that soured the relationship for me slightly. However, I could see the attraction to Josie as very realistic, even though I didn't agree with a lot of Eve's actions.

The book kept me engaged throughout. I found it to be an entertaining and enjoyable read and am looking forward to the next book in the series!

Don’t Cry for Me was my first ever Rachel Lacey book, the one that made me fall in love with her characters and stories and the overall loveliness of her books. I love them all but this one will always hold a special place in my heart. Reacquainting myself with Josie and Eve, with Kaya and Adam, with the theatre kittens, was pure pleasure.

Listening to an audiobook when you already know the book is completely different from discovering the story through narration, anticipation is added to the mix. In this case, having recently experienced Lauren’s story – who, when I first read this book, was “just” a secondary character, one who was important to the story but not one the reader knew much about – increased the anticipation and brought even more feelings. Lori Prince‘s narration is a little uneven but there are a lot more things I love about it than not. I know a lot of listeners associate her with comedy but to me, she truly shines in drama. I have a weakness for unexpected vulnerability and she breaks my heart in those moments.

And, of course, now I want a kitten. 4.5⭐️

------------------------------------------------

4.5* – Who doesn’t love an ice queen? Eve Marlow has good reasons to protect her heart, and herself in general, and that no-nonsense you-do-what-you-have-to-do quality has come in very handy in her job as a TV personality helping faltering small businesses flourish. Not even the iciest of ice queens, however, can leave newborn kittens to die in a trash can on the street. Yet there’s a difference between not wanting them to die and taking responsibility for them, especially when she has to focus on getting her show renewed, with less than a week to find the ideal candidate to save the current season.

Josie Swanson’s life is all about rescuing kittens but since her father’s death a couple of years ago, she’s been killing herself trying to keep the bar he loved, the bar she grew up in, afloat. When Eve, whose show she loves, comes to her for help with the abandoned kittens, sparks fly, not all in a pleasurable way.

This story gave me all the feels. It has most of everything I love in a romance: sweet but complex characters, hardships to overcome, cute kittens (I like puppies too, and most creatures, but kittens, you know…), overpowering attraction, angst… It’s instalust and almost instalove but the way the story is told makes complete sense. Eve’s reasons for trying to resist Josie’s charm (and her ever colour-changing hair) are coherent, despite the undeniable chemistry. And the whole kitten arc is delightful.

The only reason I’m giving it 4.5* and not the whole 5* is that there’s a little too much head-hopping and a few wobbly sentences, but not enough to lessen my enjoyment of this book. It’s the first one in a new series and I know I write this often, but I really can’t wait for book 2, [b:It's in Her Kiss|50267449|It's in Her Kiss (Midnight in Manhattan, #2)|Rachel Lacey|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/book/50x75-a91bf249278a81aabab721ef782c4a74.png|75187947], announced for September 15th. While this was my first novel by Rachel Lacey, her previous f/f romance, [b:Lost in Paradise|41010851|Lost in Paradise (Stranded, #2)|Rachel Lacey|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1541895751l/41010851._SY75_.jpg|63987138], was released last year and is going on my TBR list right away.

I received a copy from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

An entertaining read! Don't Cry for me is the story of Eve and Josie. Eve works in the reality show business and is in danger of losing her job. Her main hope turns out to be Josie who is trying to find a way to help her failing bar that she inherited from her dad. Upon meeting, these two have an instant attraction but having a partnership based on their jobs causes conflict. It was fun to watch the two interact. Each was so different from the other and yet they worked because of what they each brought to the relationship....both personally and professionally. I loved how Eve tried to be all business and professional while Josie does her best to break down those barriers.

I enjoyed this book. I am not a normal reader of F/F books but I love that Lacey has written this. It was well done and fun to read.

I received an ARC of this book. The opinions here are my own.

Love is worth the risk

Eve was so heartbroken and afraid to ever fell that kind of loss again that she closed her heart to love. Josie is full of love but no time to find the one to give it to. Kittens bring them together and the sparks fly. This story is full of emotion and passion. I will definitely be reading the next book.

I loved this story. The way the author worked the back story was so well done. I'd highly recommend and I can't wait to chat about this book in my book club later this month.

Eve is doing her best to ensure her business makeover show makes it past season two. Josie is struggling to keep her father’s bar afloat and she put her career hopes, rescuing cats, on hold. A horrible instance of Eve finding abandoned newborn kittens draws these two women together. Eve reaches out in desperation hoping Josie would take the kittens off her hands. Josie teaches her the basics. Eve ends up working with Josie to rebrand the bar and ensure its success. The more time they spend with each other, the deeper their connection grows.

What I really enjoyed about Don’t Cry for Me was how genuine both Eve and Josie appeared to be. They were themselves from the moment we met them on page. Eve is still grieving a loss, but Josie is the first person that she connects with. Eve fights the attraction in the beginning. She has a sense of professionalism that she holds herself to. But it’s hard to resist the whirlwind of Josie.

I’ve always wanted to read a romance where the reality show hosts falls for a ‘contestant’ on their show. There were flirty moments and stolen kisses between the two women and it was just so good. I wish we would have gotten steamier scenes between them. Their chemistry was intense, and I wanted to see more.

The writing was fluid, I could picture Eve, Josie, and the bar perfectly in my mind as I read. Josie’s friends were exactly like a couple of my friends and I loved seeing secondary characters like Adam and Kaia. I had fun reading their story and I was able to read it quickly. It was an escape from everything happening around me with work and class. I’m definitely going to give Lacey’s other works a read!
