A bully romance that runs through a lot of emotions.
Jake Thorn targets Amalie from the moment she arrives at Rosewood high school. Devastated from losing her parents, moving to America and losing a year of school due to transfer grades Amalie is just looking to keep her head down and out of anyone's way. Unfortunately, Jake Thorn puts a target on her back the moment she walks in the school and she has no idea why he hates her upon sight.
Jake hasn't had an easy life. He may be the king of Rosewood High, but it's a mask he wears while he's within the walls of school. When he sees Amalie for the very first time it takes him back to the worst day of his life, when he was a little boy and he was left at his aunt and uncles. Amalie releases memories and emotions in him that he's had on lockdown for years and he plans to make her pay for what he lost and the world she represents.
Our brains are tricky beasts. Why do we like certain things and dislike others? Experience usually trains us to a certain behavior and in Jake's instance he hates Amalie because of his past and her looks. He is dead set to ruin her because of it, but he's also attracted to her which is a conundrum for him to figure out. How do you like something which represents something you hate?
Amalie finds herself in the same boat, but on the opposite side. She comes into a new school with a clean slate, but eventually dislikes Jake based on everything he does to her. How can she be attracted to someone who continally abuses her? She is confused by the emotions that run through her, but she also feels there is more to the boy hiding behind the mask he wears.
Is there a middle ground for these two to meet or will they do too much damage to ever mend?

Thorn by Tracy Lorraine was disappointing for a bully romance. It had everything to make it a fantastic read but it all fell apart because Jake and Amalie had zero chemistry. Even the reason Jake bullied her for is so very absurd.
Side characters like Ethan, Mason and Poppy weren't likable enough to encourage me to read other books in Rosewood High series.

Some good moments of chemistry, but I had a difficult time identifying with the hero's justifications for his actions. It fell a little flat for me.
Poor grammar, dumb reason that the bully hates the heroine, had to skim to finish. Fun chemistry between the two, but besides that there's nothing all that interesting here.
This is the first book that I have read of the author, and now I must go back to read some more. This book is hot, and oh so angsty!
It starts out as a typical bully book, but the depth of the characters and reasons for their actions take the book to the next level. Amalie (how awesome is that name?) and Jake have explosive off the charts chemistry that keep then coming back for more. Every interaction is just foreplay for when they finally come together.
Mason, Camilla, and Ethan are great secondary characters that the author was also able to show depth for.
If you LOVE the bully, angsty, and alpha genres you will definitly love this book!

I don’t even have anything eloquent to write. It’s just not good, like, at all.
Ooohhh!
I NEED Jake to get his life together.
Even his closest friends are telling him that he’s acting out, which is a refreshing change of pace from most bully romances, where everyone follows blindly. There is way less of that in this one, although we do have to contend with a vapid “Queen Bee” that feels like she owns the hero.
And Amalie. Although I would have liked her to be a tad bit stronger, I can also see the resemblance in how she behaved with how a teenage girl would have behaved, if faced with the same treatment.
All in all...
Recommendation: it’s definitely worth the read. There’s a lot more at play, and a solid build up for book 2 in the series.
