This memoir felt like it had 4 or 5 different story lines going and and for me it did not meld into one cohesive flow. I wasn't a fan of the history of private eyes or pop psychology that was interspersed throughout the book. The story of sexual assault on college campuses by athletes with no consequences was devastating, as well as the "where are they now" with NFL and hall of fame in the mix.

!!! This was an amazing memoir. EK is a private investigator in rape cases, an abuse survivor herself, and an expert in the awful realities of college football corruption. Any one of these topics would have been fascinating by itself, but she weaves them together in a gripping memoir and also reflects on her incredibly difficult family relationships.

I'm left feeling so so sad, but this is a book I won't forget. The ending detailing the football execs and the players and their futures was a punch to the gut. The injustice makes me so so sad. The legal system. The cover ups. The fact that any justice is actually paid for by random college students. Infuriating.

EK's self discovery through therapy and self-reflection was also very interesting and moving.

She says something like, "I pretend I'm normal but inside I know that I am not" and this moved me so much.

This book triggered me... but that's kind of the whole point - to fight against people getting away with crimes that destroy someone's whole world. I would recommend but with warning that if you're a survivor, it will bring up unwanted memories.

2.5 stars. I’d never heard of this Title IX case against CU Boulder for a culture of rape around the football team , so the parts of the book about the case were really interesting. Definitely super upsetting what was happening. The author weaves in stories of herself, but they weren’t cohesive either with the events happening or with each other and so it was hard to care about those parts even though big, upsetting things were happening in her life too. I ended up just skimming waiting to learn more about the case.
