I went into this with low expectations, figuring it was a cash grab, but Levenseller did a good job bolstering this up into its own thing. The first two books felt kind of silly, and I think it was a good move to raise the stakes, emotionality, and trauma here. The romance was a sub plot, but that small percentage had me blushingggg. I'm gonna miss Sorinda and Kearan. The audiobbok narrator did a really great job; I could listen to her for longer.
Honestly a great series I loved all three. Would read more. I liked Kearan and Sorinda because I am a sap for enemies to lovers always. Sorinda also is a badass!
I found this a little harder to get into than the original duet of the series, possibly because Sorinda was such an unreliable narrator when it came to Kearan that I found, it difficult to buy into their feelings for one another. That said I enjoyed the action aspects of the story and my word what a lot of adventures Sorinda and her crew had.
This is a grumpy/sunshine romance where it's the heroine who is the sourpuss, which was a lovely little twist on the trope. I loved watching Sorinda grow and develop over the course of the story. Her emotional journey was as difficult and perilous as her physical one, but the one constant who was always there was Kearan, who was very different to the man we first met in Daughter of the Pirate King.
To fully appreciate this book I do think you need to have read the first two books (which feature a different heroine and her man).

I think that I'm really getting into my new reading groove!
This book was really good and it just flew by! I loved seeing Sorinda's perspective after only seeing her a little here and there, but we got the whole story and I loved it!
I loved the ending for her and hope for more books by Tricia Levenseller!
