It was somewhat difficult for me to really get into a groove with this book. It's achy and yearning and indirect in ways that didn't quite resonate with me. So I took a break of a couple days before I finished the last several hours. What I missed in the buildup, I definitely gained in the resolution. Really enjoyed the ways Highsmith ended this novel.

Bonus star for how this book was written (Highsmith is clearly a talented writer) and what it means/the historical importance of this story (the 50s were low on queer representation and I appreciate the normalcy Highsmith uses in portraying these women).

i read this after i saw the movie 'carol' which i absolutely LOVED. the book is just as i expected sooo good aswell :) i saw someone say in a review that carol (in the book) was mean to therese for almost the whole book, and i thought i was the only one who noticed! i was kind of sad because of that BUT however the end made it all worth it and made my heart feel warm :)) (sorry for my bad english)

First book in forever that made me sad it was over

i mean, it's the sapphic book for a reason.

Lesbians are perfect ….. “the rapport between two men or two women can be absolute and perfect, as it can never be between man and woman” . She was right!

This kind of just gave every book I've ever liked a run for its money. Lol... ❤️

Maybe i just dislike slow burns, or maybe i thought this book was something it wasn't. Therese spends the book obsessed with Carol, declaring to be in love after speaking to her about twice. Carol, on the other hand, repeatedly calls her 'child', which made the eventual romance just not sit right with me.

Don't even get me started on Richard - therese could scream 'I'm not in love with you' in his face, and he would still not let her break up with him
