A rare one where I saw the movie first, ages ago, and I think I like the film better. The emotionality and strength of pov dipped for me about ¾ in, did recover at the end, but. I think what I want is more contemporary in style but - I really would have liked more introspection and reflection from Therese and/or something from Carol’s pov, which for me would have buffed the rough edges of Therese’s selfishness

If this book wasn’t written in 1952 or was about a man and woman, it would more or less be a standard romance with the entanglement of a 50s divorce. However, because of when it was published, it was a daring novel, especially for the United States.
