I loved Doty’s nonfiction when I read him in high school, and reading his poetry was a wonderful experience. I’m biased toward the later entries. Although sometimes the poems lap one another w/r/t subject matter, he’s clearly gaining mastery through repetition. So much poignant description of queerness and mortality and the natural world here.

My dearest mister Doty, I'm at a loss for words. It is quite the rarity to stumble upon a creator who puts your own sentiments into words, just by describing their own. I am blessed to have found you. Thank you for the fire and thank you so much for Atlantis. Here's to many more to come.

Powerful, is the word that comes to mind. An impressive collection of poems. Love the poems with color descriptions. The spacing of the lines and on the page added to each poem. "Atlantis" made me cry. Context made this and other poems so much more touching. I'm glad I knew a bit about the poet's life as I read these poems. Really appreciated the diversity of topics covered: life, death, sex, pets and friends, nature, the city. I look forward to reading more by this poet.

I don't generally like "selected" poems books. I prefer the depth of a single book rather than the breadth of a spattering from many books. That said there were many poems in this book that were breathtaking. I particularly liked the narrative poems about a lover dying or even the ones about dogs. There are also several New York poems, which I love. Almost all of them contain sensual descriptions of a flower or the landscape or a human body.
"Metro North" is one of my favorite poems from any poet at any time.
