Just stumbled over this again (tangent: link to the shortlist Dead Good Books, read the comment, do not like Patterson too much, read most/all of Reichs and Gerritsen, so I looked up Griffiths and wanted to buy the first book in the Galloways series for Kindle, only Amazon informed I already bought it. Lucky me, would not have been the first time I bought something again.
Currently (July 23d, 2016) reading [b:The Girl on the Train|22557272|The Girl on the Train|Paula Hawkins|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1469460259s/22557272.jpg|41107568].
Hopefully I can finish "Girl ...", my habit of starting yet another book while not totally abandoning others is starting to hurt continuity, there I have to read parts again to get into a story I started reading too long ago. Arghh, too late, started it ...
A bit long, interesting scenery. Just not enough in the end for 5 stars.
Still, recommended fast read of not entirely a page-turner for me. Will certainly buy and read the other books in the series sometimes.

Good introduction to the series; I like the characters a lot and it kept my attention.

I really enjoy these sort of meandering British thrillers that include a lot about the characters' lives but still manage to make the mystery aspects taut and interesting. I especially enjoy that they don't employ a lot of contortions and twists and tricks the way so many American mystery/thrillers do. I derived the same kind of enjoyment from this book I get from reading Donna Leon's Brunetti mysteries.

On any normal day I would’ve rated The Crossing Places a solid 4 ⭐️’s, but I read this at the perfect time in my life and it’s bumping up to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
I related a lot to Ruth’s character and her personality. The actual mystery was strong and the twist quite pleasantly unexpected. I found that the actual setting was the strongest point in this book. It was SO atmospheric and moody! I’m definitely going to be continuing this series!
