I am very excited about this book- although the "sequel" to GWTW was disappointing(but admittedly, entertaining in a cheesy way). Don MacCaig is a well known writer in my border collie world- he wrote one of my favorite books "Nop's Trials" and some excelllent non-fiction as well. He is an incredibly talented writer who can move a story well and with beautiful language. I don't think they could have picked a better author to tackle Rhett's story.

Ok.. finished it...

I was very satisfied with it- would recommend to GWTW fans- probably couldn't stand on its own but is a good companion to the original. I enjoyed Belle Watling's backstory, the explanation of Rhett's "ward" and the Butler/O'Hara marriage. Some actions/storylines seemed to come out of nowhere but overall I enjoyed it as an entertaining read.

What a disappointment. It was nice to dig a bit deeper into Rhett Butler's life, but that was all we got: a bit deeper. I would have liked for the story to be told only from Rhett's perspective, or from his perspective and those of his family. Instead, we jump around and end up spending a lot of time with Scarlett. I love Scarlett, and she certainly is an important person in Rhett's life, but I think this would have been a better book if McCaig had stayed a bit further away from her.

A worthy follow-up to [b:Gone With the Wind|18405|Gone With The Wind|Margaret Mitchell|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1166913011s/18405.jpg|3358283]. The author did a truly admirable job of blending the old with the new. It took me a few chapters to really get into it, and I still think it has an odd title, but those were the only drawbacks. Thank heavens it wasn't another bomb like "Scarlett."

This was a decent sequel. It was not in addition to Scarlett. More instead of Scarlett. They both told a different ending. It was good to get an idea of what Rhett might have been thinking through the entire relationship. It definitely showed how deeply he loved Scarlett and how she broke him.

pretty disappointed after Gone with the Wind and Scarlett but still, gone with the wind is my favorite so it was still good.

Overall, I liked the story. Unfortunately I didn't really care for the writing style. It seemed choppy, and jumped around. Personally, I didn't like the new ending. It seemed too wrapped up. Almost like it was thrown in to say, "see it did end happily!"

I am a HUGE fan of GWTW and will soak up anything having to do with it. There were somethings i really liked about this book and some things i really disliked about this book. I wont name them since it'll give the book away. With this book your either going to like it or dislike it, i don't feel like there really is an in-between.

DID NOT FINISH

I gave it 53 pages. (My rule is 50-60 pages.) The writing style is pretty awful. Plotline kind of interesting, but I just kept thinking, "This should be much better than it is." Maybe I'll come back to it one day.

Again, [b:Gone with the Wind|18405|Gone With The Wind|Margaret Mitchell|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1166913011s/18405.jpg|3358283] is a classic. I thought this was pretty well done.
