I found the world and world-building intriguing, but every time the main character said she was going into "heat," I cringed. And she talked about being in heat about every four or five pages.

4.5 stars. Liked it even more on the second read. Dark, lush worldbuilding with interesting characters.

One-sentence summary: The Biblical Apocalypse has begun, and a mage fights the dark powers.

Why did you get this book?: The completely ridiculous cover and my weakness for novels about dystopias, the Apocalypse, and Catholic mythology.

Do you like the cover?: Yes! How can you resist?

Did you enjoy the book?: Enjoy is the wrong word; I read it with great relish -- the plot is fairly fun but at someone point, the author seemed to lose control of the novel. It was like a train wreck with angels, sexual tension, and Biblical references.

Fantastic book! I absolutely loved the world and these characters, and I can't wait to read more! Such a great start to this series!

I loved Faith Hunter's other series, which made Bloodring more disappointing than if it had been by some random author. I did like it, I'll probably read book 2, but it's just not up to the "give me the next book now" addictive quality of her more recent series. An interesting world, with climate change, figures from Christian mythology and concepts of mages and magical gems intermingling and fighting the forces of Darkness.

Not quite as good as her other series', but still quite entertaining. Looking forward to the other two in the series.

It wasn't bad. It just wasn't outstanding. I love Faith Hunter's other series so I'm kind of sad this wasn't an instant win.

We are in an ice age world where season changes don't exist. We just have winter 24/7.

Our lead is a neomage hiding among the human populayion. Being found out could mean severe consequences.

Her ex husband is kidnapped and the police starts to get involved leading to problems.

It was a bit slow in parts, but still a rather solid entry. I'm not sure that I would read the rest

I did enjoy this book though I don't think I'll be reading farther in the series. The world is presented well and the main characters are well thought out and sympathetic. I just am not interested in the New Age/Christian mythos that is central to the story.

The story also felt like it didn't know what it wanted to be. Sometimes it was heading towards a romance, other times a mystery/chrime novel, and then yet again into a thriller with a prejudice conflict.

I think my reading also suffered as I read via the audiobook which while clearly read, wasn't emoted very well.

I just could not get into this book at all. I struggled to get over the main character struggling with being in heat all the time, the other characters moved in and out of the story but never seem to pull the story along.
It was also really annoying about how many times I had to told about her amulets, her rocks, and her past.
The other problem was that secondary characters had things revealed about them but then that was it, wait for book 2 or 3 to find out what it might means.
You can tell the author is trying to build a series but to me there was no clear defined bad guys, no real pulling out the threads of a major conspiracy plot, no real sense of who the major players were and why there was an urgency to move an entire town. It was hinted that it was something more sinister but never came through.
The term witchy woman - please!
I'm sure others will enjoy the book but it just was not for me.
