Interesting take on the dystopian genre. I would maybe liked to have seen more of what the city was, but maybe that is how we are told that the city is really a bad place and no one wants to be there.

emotional

Strong opening, but it fails to live up to that first 25%. The beginning is full of emotions and the rest full of tedious descriptions of the movements of the people. I was excited for the shift in POV, it was a great move at that moment conceptually. Agnes, however, isn't very interesting and she doesn't think about her situation or her relationships with much depth. Maybe that's how Cook writes a the interiority of a child, but it was bland.

Man I love the local library I would never had even HEARD of this book without it and then I would have continued to be less of a person.

I have so many feelings about this book but no words for them. The way the relationship between Bea and Agnes was written was beautiful.
