Strange the Dreamer

Laini Taylor

4.3 AVERAGE

Looks like I’m in a very small minority here. 2 stars for Laini Taylor’s beautiful writing style and world building. The actual story itself is boring and lackluster. Didn’t care about any of the characters.

My only qualm with reading Laini Taylor’s books is that I always have “a whole new set of fears to discover: the ones that come with cherishing someone you're very likely to lose.” Her characters have so much depth, I feel as if I truly know and understand their fears, hopes and heartbreak. Strange the dreamer was strange indeed, what is reading if not being in someone else’s dream while you’re awake?

love love loved this. strangely enough (haha pun intended haha), i even loved the weaknesses of this book. enchanting prose and enchanting world. fiercely tender and noble characters. even the section at the end that dragged on for 100 pages didn't bother me, or the spontaneous and instantaneous nature of lazlo and sarai's romance - literally who cares! the world's all a dream! the characters are so unabashedly human! everything's in the name of love, or hate, so close that the lines start to blur! i'm now considering picking up muse of nightmares just to witness minya's downfall, 5/5.
