It's pretty rare that I will read an entire series that is romance based. I more a fan of action, mystery, fantasy, or paranormal stories. I can't remember why I started reading the Spruce series, but I can't stop. Every book in this series is ... engaging. The characters are relatable, and the setting is so darn comfortable. Rebel at Spruce High was just as wonderful and sweet as the previous volumes.

Extra bonus points to Daryl Banner for showing that not all jocks are mean, dumb bullies. The quarterback at my college was a very sweet guy who graduated with an engineering degree. He would never bully anyone. Seriously. I hate the dumb, bully, jock stereotype.

Toby needed his story told. Vann was a great addition to the cast. I can't wait to see what happens next in Spruce.

This was a cute return to Spruce but fast forwarded to the next generation. I liked seeing old characters update, it felt like catching up with old friends.

BUT it was super cool to meet the new residents and the new stories of Spruce..This YA story of Toby and Vann is a gr8 coming of age read, deals beautifully with some topics that affect high school kids currently and that kids have hidden depths and talents .

love love

This is probably my fav so far out of the spruce Texas series. These two are just so perfect for each other and they both have found each other when they most need it.

Another strong entry in the Spruce Texas series. The journey of the two main characters were singularly both big and subtle. Each affected the other, yet each held to themselves. I always love the side stories about the rest of the town characters, and those who we have visited with in previous stories. This is a real strength of this series. It is a little like coming home each time I read one. Great work as always Daryl. More more more please.

**I was given a free copy of this book by the author to read and review.**

Rebel at Spruce High is the fifth installment of the Spruce Texas Romance series. It is a young adult coming of age read. Trust me when I say you won't miss the in detail sex scenes. Banner writes this story in such a way you still feel the steam between the characters.

Unfortunately I have only read two books in this series and found reading Rebel at Spruce High as a standalone wasn't an issue. What I did learn is that I seriously need to go back and read books two three and four!!!

I loved that this is a coming of age young adult read. It had so much feeling and emotion that jumped off each page at you. Toby is the awkward video game lover that seems to be the butt of the joke among the jocks at school. All of his friends graduated last year, he should of graduated too but being bullied caused him to repeat a grade, leaving him alone for his senior year. When Vann shows up at school the rumor mill is in overdrive over the new kid. Toby takes the expected bullying from Hoyt for the first half of the day but when lunch rolls around Hoyt's games are stopped by the new guy Vann standing up for Toby. No one's ever done that before so Toby is surprised and super shocked by the rudeness Vann tosses Toby's way when he tries to thank him.

I loved the chemistry between these two. Toby was given a bad hand dealt to him but meeting someone so opposite to himself helped him break that shell and become a better man. They both learned from each other. I can't wait to read more from this little Texas town!

I have been a long-time fan of Daryl’s and when I had the opportunity to read an advanced copy of the book, I was very impressed. Let me just take a moment to say when I got to the paragraph regarding “PE”, I knew exactly ow the character felt. I had this strange connection with Mr. Schubert and the tone he had. I kinda wish I had him for a teacher. Toby and Van are great characters and the story is written in a great way of bringing real-life experiences as a gay student into a fun, flirty, and meaningful way. It’s hard to write this without giving away parts of the story, but this truly became a great read that had me going through every emotion.

I WILL finish this book eventually but it is very relatable and I want to scream reading it. Wondering if I should move to the next book in the series and come back.
