I would give this a million stars if I could! I loved this book so much. Victoria Aveline has really outdone herself with this one.

Thoughts:
Ruling Sikthand is a great sci-fi romance novel and a lovely continuation of the Clecanian series. The angst is well-written, and the world-building is interesting, which is to be expected with Victoria Aveline’s books.
I absolutely loved the relationship dynamic between Sophia and Sikthand. They couldn’t be more opposite in personality and culture, which causes missteps in their romantic development. Sophia is understanding, sweet, and often accepting of Sikthand’s distrusting nature. As with all the other human female leads of this series, she tried to make the best of her situation. On the other hand, Sikthand's past caused a significant amount of inner turmoil, self-loathing, and distrust in others. His trauma response made sense, and the nuances of his feelings and behaviors led to well-written and enjoyable angst that led to a complicated romantic development. Furthermore, his backstory provided an interesting take on the fated mates trope and the Mars needs women trope.
Aside from all the good I already mentioned, I loved the steamy scenes and the way Sikthand’s possessive traits fed into his darker stalker tendencies.
My complaint with this book is related to the back-and-forth the couple faced due to Sikthand’s trauma. The romance conflicts felt a little repetitive at times, and the level of angst presented and struggles they encountered deserved a more thorough resolution. However, this was a very sweet and lovely read nonetheless.
I would recommend Ruling Sikthand to readers who already have a basic knowledge of the setting and series. I believe it’s one of the stronger books in this series, which I would recommend to romance readers who are new to sci-fi romance subgenre.

Finished March 28, 2024, review written Jan 18, 2025. Overall, I think this was my least favourite of the series, within a series that I really love. As always, Aveline builds us a sci-fi world that is populated with cool technology, a vast planet with a range of fantastical landscapes, and giant fearsome beasts. I love being lost in these worlds.
This one though, I kept putting it down and picking it back up. I think I just didn't connect emotionally to Sikthand. Maybe I just don't care about people becoming royalty any more now that I live in the UK and find the monarchy so dreary? I will maybe re-read this series at some point.

This book is probably my favorite of the series so far.
Fejo & Theo's books are up there too.
This one is angsty, artistic, broody, and hot.
My only complaint is that I want more of these characters after their 'HEA'
