This was easily a 5⭐️ read!!

I am obsessed with this one!! I wasn’t sure anything would top Using Fejo, but this one truly did. This is now officially my favorite in the Clecanian Series. Also I SOBBED when reading the last chapters.

What I loved
If you’ve seen my reviews for the previous books you know how much I LOVE the world building and this was no exception. We follow Sophia while she’s exploring Vrulatica and reading it all through her was an amazing experience. Also, the tattoos!! I don’t remember if this was described in the previous books, but learning how tattoos work in detail was very interesting.

King Sikthand is after this book my favorite MMC in the series, hands down. He made my heart ache at least a hundred times throughout the book. He was tricked and almost assassinated by his romantic partner in which he trusted with his whole heart. After this he vowed to never open up his heart again. Reading how he’s constantly drawn to Sophia and having to fight it off is painful. He believes that if he lets himself get close to her, it’ll destroy him. He wants so badly to trust and love Sophia, but the trauma from his past won’t let him.
"He couldn't be blind again. Even if he managed to live through another betrayal, he wouldn't survive it. Not if it was her. Not if it was Sophia."

Sophia was simply an angel. While being held captive by the king she agrees to an arranged marriage with the king. She quickly decides to use this as an opportunity to best help the other humans as Queen of Vrulatica. Whatever comes her way, Sophia adapts. She’s selfless, kind and compassionate to everyone she meets, even though they’re not returning the favor. I simply loved her character!

The spice was as always *chefs kiss*. Victoria knows how to write!! I promise you one thing, if you’re looking for good smut, these are the books for you.

Thank you Victoria Aveline for providing an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Like popcorn, I couldn't stop!

I think this is my favorite of the series! I just loved the characters. This series was a fun read :)

I’ve been reading this series since the first book and am so surprised by how much this world has grown. Aveline writes so many different characters and settings on Clecania, which makes each book feel new and fresh. This one is Sophia who is a captive of the king, Sikthand. His people are harsh and ruthless and she must prove her place in their society.

There were some things that felt problematic in this one but willing to overlook.

This is definitely my favorite story from this series. Crazy paranoid Sikthand definitely warmed my heart and Sophie's thoughtful approach to him. Perfect pair ❤️

Ms. Aveline brings us another fantastic story!

So this one I consider more of a Slow-Burn with a lot of world-building and one misunderstood hero and heroine. It picks up right after [b:Resisting Maxu|63139070|Resisting Maxu (Clecanian #6)|Victoria Aveline|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1667179831l/63139070._SX50_.jpg|98719680] ending, Sophie couldn't escape and got left in Vrulactia (I apologize if I misspelled the planet lol) under the watch of one surly as hell King. The King, Sikthand hasn't had an easy life. Everyone has betrayed him and he has a constant target on his head. So to say he is mistrustful of Sophie is an understatement. Their relationship is turbulent and we can see each other's attraction but they both catalog it as the fascination for another species and nothing more. As the palace intrigue continues, Sikthand and Sophie come to an arrangement that will benefit both of their species. When I said it was a slow burn was because we get to see them together toward the end of the book (the spice starts at around 70%). But the plot is so intriguing that you really don't miss it. I didn't see the plot twist and was surprised because I can usually see it, so that is why Ms. Aveline is amazing. The only issue I had with this book is that I couldn't really picture Sikthand's hood around his face... maybe I will have to wait for the fan art to pop up. Overall 4 stars.
