Oh boy, I immediately jumped into this book after Maxu/Meg because this series is that addicting. It feels like every book just gets better and better. I cannot wait for the next one and to see who the main couple is.
This book would have been 5 stars for me until about 100 pages before the end. I was on board the slow burn train and the angst and pining until the last like 1/5 of the book.
Maybe it's me and I'm the total opposite vibe of Sikthand in a relationship, but I wish at the end there was a bigger moment for him and his trust issues. Like, I know Sophia is his real mate, and that bond just magics away a lot of relationship issues, but the end was very underwhelming. The kidnapping from Maxu/Meg felt like a very sloppy plot progression tool, I'm sure there was another way to get them to realise they were mates. There was so much build up during the whole book and then it was like, they lived happily ever after, bye.
Sophia is a great character, I actually appreciated her patience with the whole situation and being a grown up when needed. She didn't pretend being a queen was all about dresses and banging the king, but she also wasn't a political science maven who knew everything about ruling over a group of people, she was willing to learn and accept her interim shortcomings.

A new favorite in the series?
Sikthand is the King of Vrulatica, and Sophia is his new political prisoner. Sikthand was betrayed by a woman before, and is doing everything he can to keep from feeling anything for this new little human in his life.
I loved both Sikthand and Sophia separately, but their journey together was my favorite of the series.
From Sophiaโs openness to this new society on Clecania, and Sikthand learning to trust again, the longing and tension between the two was just top notch.
I am also really enjoying the continued political upheaval humans have caused on Clecania, and Iโm looking forward to seeing how these human women will deal with it all.
And, of course, I still adore the narrator, Stephen Dexterโฆand his purring. โค๏ธ

I think this is officially my favorite of the series. You learn why Sikthand is this way he is and Sofia is a great FMC, smart, witty and kind. I couldnโt put this down!

Victoria Aveline continues to hold me by my throat. Sikthand & Sophia are so wonderfully matched and I loved that Sikthand was willing to work through his trauma and be vulnerable with Sophia and after the final conflict was able to look past his prior paranoia and accept love into his life. This is one of my favorite series and I can't wait to see what comes next!
