The Gold Cadillac is a very short story in the Logans series, taking place around 1950. I’m not sure how it specifically falls in with the other books, this unnamed family lives in Toledo and mentions the father visiting his parents farm in Mississippi, so I have to assume it’s one of the brothers? In any case, it still delves in many similar themes and the writing is still stellar in the author’s show-not-tell style. You feel the fear and the anger and the excitement along with the characters. It is interesting to look at a family in the Logans series who live in the north and the first time the daughters see rural south racism and segregation is when traveling to Mississippi. It’s such a short book though, I wanted more personally but I’m sure it makes a stellar children’s book.

I read this short quick illustrated book as a read aloud to my 7 and 4 year olds. This book is a historical fiction story on a family who faces discrimination as they venture into the south with their new car. The book says it’s for ages ten and up, but I felt it was appropriate for my girls as we freely have discussion together on hard topics like this. I thought it was a good read, I think it could have been even better if it was a bit more in-depth. I will have to look into other books by this author.

I liked this book but I wish the characters were identified. It says it is a Logan Family story but there are no Logans' in it. I guess I will just believe that the narrator is the author and the Dad is Stacie from the Logan books. Although it is not what is stated it seems very likely that this was the author's own father. I always thought Stacie was her father.

I remember reading this and being upset by the racism that was so very blatant. I was 12 and did not know much about American History as I live in England, it made me disappointed in humans and the cruelty we enforce upon others
