I usually enjoy the books in this series because of the cheesy romance but I really struggled to get through this one. This book is about main character, Sera’s, time spent under the captivity of the King of the Primals, Kolis, and it is pretty dark but also very drawn out with a lot of emotional suffering. I read books that are fun and entertaining and 80% of this book made me tense and anxious. I don’t enjoy that kind of reading experience so this has been my least favorite book of the series, but some people might enjoy exploring those other emotions.

This first half of this book was just way too long? It did not need to be that wordy and also, Kolis is the worst and I hate him. That may have contributed to my feelings.

The second half was way better, but this is my least liked book of this series.

My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Reading Order: You must read these in order.

General Thoughts: I had super high expectations going into this one. I love JLA, and I have read and loved everything she's ever written. I knew this series was originally supposed to be a trilogy, but there was too much story to tell, so it became four books. I wanted to reread all the books before this came out, so I was delayed in getting to this one. Which is a real shame, because this book is fabulous.

I love Sera and Nyktos so much. This book is more focused on Sera for obvious reasons. And it's a tough read in many ways. Sera is in the hands of Kolis, who is an utterly awful human, and so it's difficult to read. I thought JLA did a great job with it though. This book was more internally focused and focused on Sera's mental struggles while being Kolis's captive. It sets up for a lot of action in this fourth book and I can't wait to read it.

JLA doesn't miss, and this is no exception.

Spice Meter:❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 Some spicy scenes, but not as graphic or frequent as some. But definitely spicier than some in the genre. Not as detailed.

Romantic Tropes
-time is running out
-touch her and die

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Reading Order: Series must be read in order.

Reading Age: This is an adult romantasy book. It's for 18+ and includes sexual content not for under 18+. Friends IRL read the series for yourself before allowing kids to read. Note: It's steamier than I typically read.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I adore JLA and this series so much. I put off reading this one because I knew it would be a tough read and I wanted to read it closer to when the fourth and final book of this series came out. (Note: it's very connected to a connected series that she has been releasing simultaneously).

I knew this book would be a heavier and more emotional read, and I was not wrong. It was less heavy and emotional than I thought at times, but still heavy. This is more of an internal book. Until the beginning and end, not much really happens plot-wise. It's more of a book exploring the mind and mental conditions, which I enjoyed and loved. If you like more plot-heavy books, this one may be a bit more difficult for you.

This is not a spoiler: the book deals with Sera being held captive by Kolis--who is a deranged, psycotic narcissist with a massive god complex. So yeah, heavy reading and not a lot of external events going on.

I went in with high expectations and like always JLA exceeded them. I am so ready to dive into the final book.

Love,

I really really love Nyktos and Seraphina’s relationship, even more so than Casteel and Poppy’s. I truly enjoyed the last 150 pages of this book but the rest felt so slow. And that is why I rated it 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️. I know it’s all part of the back story but anyway I’m still excited for what’s to come
