This book, which I devoured in one 1+ hour (approximately) setting, started a bit slower than I had expected. For my tasted the beginning dwelled too long on one aspect of Luke's transformation before it jumped into the meat of the plot.

However, true to Haddix's gifted writing style, once it did I was hooked. She is incredibly talented with her writing, bringing each character to life & the moment clear with detail.

Sadly I don't have book #3 here so I have to wait.

I do think it’s kind of weird that Luke always seems to just have the right instincts to keep himself safe. But also the world building here keeps me so intrigued.

I like this book, however, it is not as good as the first one. It takes a long time to get into and then the action is all at the end. Even my students, who I was reading it aloud to, were kind of bored until the end when Jason's identity is revealed. So it is good, and important in the rest of the series, however, it is not necessarily my favorite in the series.

i think this is an important book series more kids could read. it takes a look into how damaging propaganda can be and how the government uses it to their advantage
