It feels like a romance about a man and a woman, but then the author just changed all the pronouns so it was two women. Disturbingly heteronormative.

I had such high hopes for this book after loving “How To Catch A Queen” and sadly this book just didn’t work out in my favor. I had a hard time connecting to the story as it went on and felt like it was just dragging and dragging. I would have also liked to see how the couple adapted to royal life as well. It felt like as soon as the story picked up and started to get interesting it was over.

Beznaria absolutely stole the show in [b:How to Catch a Queen|52696457|How to Catch a Queen (Runaway Royals, #1)|Alyssa Cole|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1574329774l/52696457._SY75_.jpg|73107751], so I was very excited for her turn as the lead in this delightful romance from one of my personal favorites, Alyssa Cole. Bez is a royal investigator and Makeda is a regular girl who, if her grandmother’s claims are true, might be part of a royal bloodline. Unfortunately for Beznaria, Makeda has no interest in her possible royal lineage and wants to focus on getting her life back together after a layoff and a breakup. This series about modern day royals is a lot of fun, the perfect escape read for summer.

Makeda and Beznaria were an unlikely couple at the beginning. Bez was looking for the lost heir of her country - while hiding this fact from her employer. And Makeda had done everything she could to not be a princess...

From their first meeting, there were sparks galore, even if they both tried to deny it. Especially Makeda was very reluctant - which just made it even sweeter when she finally truly thought about it.

How to Find a Princess is also an adventure on a cargo ship, where Bez had decided to let the captain know she and Makeda were married... which made for some interesting situations.

Overall, I adored this novel, apart from the ending that was both abrupt and not at all what I had expected.

This book didn’t quite do it for me. There was such a long build up for the big reveal of the missing princess, and then it was all sorted out in two paragraphs. This book could definitely have used a softer landing. That said, I loved Bez’s character and I enjoyed their time on the boat together.

I enjoyed How to Find a Princess so much!! Makeda has been having a rough time - she lost her job and got home to find her girlfriend was leaving her and moving out. Makeda ends up going to work at her grandmother’s b&b while she figures out her next move. She has no patience for her grandmother and mother believing they are actually related to royalty in Ibarania. So when an investigator named Beznaria shows up to take her to Ibarania to determine if she is their list Princess - Makeda wants nothing to do with it.

This is a story with banter and a fake relationship and a “just one bed” moment and all the great swoon worthy moments I expect from Alyssa Cole. Highly recommend. Thank you to Avon and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.

Beznaria had to have some awful back pains from carrying this book. Poor woman. She was my fave.
