Alexandra ‘Zan’ Moreland’s son Matthew was kidnapped as a toddler, sleeping in his pushchair whilst his babysitter snoozed on beside him. Two years later, photos emerge showing Zan to be the one who kidnapped her own son, turning her from victim to pariah in the eyes of the local media. Along with friends Alvirah and Willy, Zan fights to prove her innocence and uncover the mystery surrounding her son’s disappearance.

Mary Higgins Clark’s novels were probably the first suspense novels I read, as a teenager just beginning to get into the genre. They’re safe, not overly violent or sexual and very rarely do they feature bad language. I do wonder, however, if her style of writing has had its day in today’s society. Her characters are invariably well to do, well spoken, high-flyers who enjoy lunch at high end restaurants and just happen to have got themselves entangled in some unsavoury business. I feel that her work comes across as dated, and this was no exception. Because of this I struggled to really invest in the characters and didn’t have that drive to keep reading. I did so, purely because I don’t like leaving a book halfway through, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I have others of hers. If you’re a fan, you’ll read it, but if you’re looking for the latest blockbuster read, then this isn’t it.

Mary Higgins Clark attacks identify theft in this page turner while skillfully leading you to believe that the bad guy is the main character's former boss. It worked for me and I was at least mildly surprised at the identify of the real criminal.

I think I've read every single book that Mary Higgins Clark has ever written - and I've been a BIG fan over the years. With that said, this book offered nothing new from her other stuff - so I didn't experience any edge of my seat moments in the story - maybe that's typical with authors after awhile but still disappointing.

MHC não desilude!!! Gosto mesmo muito da escrita dela, faz-nos desconfiar de tudo o que mexe :)
Se bem que soube quem era o culpado antes do final, o suspense é brutal!!!
Recomendo sem reservas

It was the first book I read by Mary Clark. Amazing work, beautiful story and really good tricks of suspense.

I've been reading Clark's books for decades and I've gotten pretty good at figuring out the twist before the end, but... not this time. If you are a fan of her books, you'll enjoy this one as well. And you'll have to let me know if you figure it out too!

Normally identity theft ruins your credit...in this case, identity theft is ruining Zan's life. Someone is impersonating her in the kidnapping of her own son. The plot thickens and Zan tries to prove her innocence and you won't believe the outcome of this one.

This one kept me guessing for quite a while, although right at the end I did have a bit of a clue as to what the ending was gonna be. I really liked it and was able to get through it pretty quickly.

The writing is still good, but it's a short story's worth of content stretched into a full book.
