I read Ice Limit and when I found there was a part two, I jumped at it.
Ice Limit had the team of the Rolvaag bringing a mystery back to New York to be shared at a new museum designed to be the best. Designed by a very wealthy man, used to have what he wants. In the end, they are unsuccessful.
This tale begins with the determination to return to the site and take stock of the item. There are responsibilities that were neglected and now must be dealt with. A few characters from the original return to this story, with significant changes from their experience on the Rolvaag.
The adventure is just as crazy and active and exciting as the original.

Great beginning and tense middle with a long, drawn out ending. I found myself skimming pages to get to the end. That’s never good. The 3.5 is because it was such a fascinating concept. They just didn’t stick the landing.

The sex scene was cringe- definitely could tell who it was written by. It was lazy. Don’t write a sex scene if you don’t care to learn how to write one.
This book was a sequel to The Ice Limit, which I recently read. I enjoyed the first, but realty not until the end, which is what made me want to pick up the sequel.
When I found it it was also part of the Gideon Crew series I was a little nervous because I haven't read that series (a few address in my bookshelf though). But I went with it.
And this book was nothing at all like first book. But it was a fun read that was easy to get through in a short amount of time.

I am going with 4, but I’m not sure. There are some weird issues with this book, but at least we get back to some of the batshit crazy that I loved about the early Preston and Child books.

Der zweite Teil der Duologie um das Ice Limit ist genauso packend und faszinierend wie der erste Teil. Die Mischung aus verschiedenen Genres funktioniert perfekt und während des ganzen Buches über blieb ich voll dabei. Ein richtiger Thriller mit der richtig dosierten Packung "Thrill".
Da diese Bücher auch Teil der Reihe um Gideon sind, werde ich mich wohl demnächst mal dieser Serie zuwenden. Mal sehen, ob auch diese Bücher zu überzeuge wissen. Wenn Preston & Child dort genauso arbeiten wie bei diesen Büchern, darf ich mich auf gute Unterhaltung freuen.

Well, if you are considering this title then you must be familiar with Preston and Child's first three Gideon Crew novels. Of the four, I enjoyed this one, if not the best then second best. It was certainly more solid than the third in the series. So, plot has been done to bits but here it is. This is a sequel to The Ice Limit, a novel written years ago and introducing characters that have popped up here and there in the world that Preston/Child have created. The first novel left quite a bit open to speculation and this novel was intended to wrap up the questions that lingered. Was it good? Yes. Enjoyable. Enough thrill to keep me reading. And I do love how characters pop up here and there in other books. Was it predictable? You betcha. Not much new. These two authors' Pendergast books are some of my favorite books. There is never much disappointing in them. But their other series leave a little bit to be desired. Formulaic and, quite honestly, getting so similar it is hard to keep them separate in my mind. My advice to them, as a serious Pendergast fan, forget Crew and your other series and give us more Pendergast :) overall, if you are invested in the whole series or the whole Preston/Child cannon this is not to be missed. It is a sci/fi, stuck out on a boat in the middle of nowhere survival story. If you are not familiar with Preston and Child and that appeals to you, then you will find it enjoyable. There is enough background given through "found" security footage that you will have no problem following what is going on.

Weird, unexpected and curious -- similar to the other books by these authors -- but kind of a disappointment. I loved "The Ice Limit," and just re-read it in anticipation of this newer addition. The first book is superior in every way. The sketching out of the idea, the character development, even the rhythm of dialog, it's all there in book one and lacking in book two.
I can't imagine Preston and Child's skills have ebbed away over the years-- more likely they just didn't invest the time in "Beyond" that they did with the original.
