The illustrations are the reason why I picked up the book in the first place, and the purchase was well worth it. The pages are so beautiful; the artist Yerkov is beyond talented. Warning: this is a RETELLING of the original fables. The author wanted to make it easier for all the stories to bind together, so she made changes. And that's totally fine, but now I'm jonesin' to compare this to the original.

A delightful fairy tale and I enjoyed the Julia Whelan narration.

Tbh I just read this to finish my popsugar challenge before the end of the year. It was fine. Very simple and basic descriptions, but unmemorable.

Beautiful story, wonderful narration. The music underscoring at the end was unnecessary but didn't ruin it. I loved this audio version.
One of my favourite childhood stories, and a great Christmas story, too. It’s the perfect whimsical, adventurous, frost-bitten fairytale for the months when the nights start drawing inwards, and warnings about Snow Queens, shards of glass, and icy hearts start seeming a little more believable in the minds of wonderstruck children. I loved reading this again, especially as I haven’t touched it in over a decade, and the sense of nostalgia and warmth and child-like joy that washed over me when I finished those last few sentences almost took my breath away. Books really are like time capsules, and I truly felt 10 years old all over again, experiencing this fairytale for the first time and wishing I could go on an perilous, daring adventure to save my best friend and true love, too.
