I need to stop reading YA thrillers. Teenager just aint the brightest.

This is one of those books where because of the title and synopsis you know that "Mary" is not her name, but you don't know what her name is and you don't exactly know what's going on especially when the viewpoint of Drew is part of the narrative. The author creates dread to the point where you can't put the book down because you want to figure it out. I enjoyed the characters. Drew and "Mary" are strong-willed, "Mary's Father" is so creepy, and I felt that Drew's friends added the appropriate amount of comedic relief. I do think that some of this premise required me to suspend my belief. I feel like a lot of this book would have fallen through if it were a movie or show because visually it'd be easy to figure out.

That... was not the ending I was expecting.

Surprisingly dark and creepy for a YA novel.

The writing was decent, although the pace dragged a bit towards the middle. The characters weren't painfully immature like they sometimes are in YA fiction.

The ending was unexpected and I really appreciated that.
Even though the story ended on a sad note, I got a sense of closure and felt like healing for the characters would be possible with time.

Great, fast paced thriller. Had me on the edge of my seat and I did not want to put it down. Had me telling my friends to go and read it so I had someone to talk to about it.

Absolutely heartbreaking as well. Was crying for a long time towards the end as the twist caught me very off guard.

Drew was a great character. Reading about his emotional struggles while a town is turning on him and no one is listening was shattering. I just wanted to give him a big hug.

That’s Not My Name was well-paced, kept me on the edge of my seat, and dropped a twist at the end that I was NOT expecting. It was a pretty standard thriller until the end, but the twist earned an extra star from me. It’s a quick, easy read too, which was a nice bonus.

I’d recommend it!
