This was a good self-help book. I liked how straight-up it was on certain topics. I loved the bullet point style. I did find it spoke more to 20 somethings and professionals. It made assumptions about where people were economically or in their careers. However, I did get a lot out of it.

I expected to like this book more than I did, but I believe that’s because I was expecting a different kind of book. I thought I would find a compilation of essays by various authors compiled by West, I was anticipating essays based in research and perhaps a few focusing on reflection. That is not this book.
First, these essays are all (as far as I am aware) written by West, with maybe one arguable exception. For me, it made the book harder to get through since I had anticipated a variety of voices and writing styles. Second, the essays are largely a matter of opinion stated as fact. This isn’t problematic, only jarring for myself since I am more familiar with scientific publications.
Overall, I’m glad I persisted and finished this book as most of the essays I enjoyed the most were in the last quarter of the book (or perhaps I was simply better adapted to her writing style by then). I would recommend this to readers who enjoy food for thought and appreciate a tone of intimacy similar to a conversation given by an older sibling or mentor. Ultimately, I do not think I was the right reader but see why so many love it.

This one was very simplistic but I liked it. I didnt really connect with all the essays but a lot of them was a yes for me! I would definitely say the target audience are young adults/in their twenties, a lot of these essays are about your future, love and relationships. Definitely recommend

A very interesting collection of essays that for sure will leave you with a couple of new ideas.
