I listened to this audiobook on my commute to work during November. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend either reading or listening! There are 101 chapters, each with a different theme, so you can go back to a chapter again if you need it again :). Here are some of my favorite quotes from the second half of the book:
Connection is the opposite of anxiety.
People are curious about pain and suffering because they don’t understand it.
Be grateful your discomfort.
Big love is not the same as forever love.

It’s embarrassing for me to say that this is technically the second book I’ve read this year. (The first book i read was the Elements of Indigenous Style by Gregory Younging. I read it for my Writer’s Craft course). This was my first “for fun” book of the year. I got VERY busy with school, but I graduate next Wednesday!!! 👩🏼🎓🎓🥂
I got this book for Christmas last year and started reading it shortly after Christmas. it took me six months to finish it because school was so demanding. But I am SO happy I wished for it and was so determined to finish it.
I’m not really one for self-help books, but this one was phenomenal. it flows very well and the short essays make it easy to binge read. I read 100 pages in the hot sun today to finish it!!
I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone in their 20s who are potentially in a transition period in their lives like me.
some essays that resonated with me:
“how to measure a good life”
“why does a soul want a body?”
“50 people on the most liberating thought they’ve ever had”
“you’re only in your 20s - it’s not too late to completely start over”
“what people who have lost love know”
“simplicity”
“18 little reminders for anyone who feels like they don’t know what they’re doing with their life”
“10 questions to ask yourself when you don’t know where your life should go next”
“what you find in solitude”
“let yourself be happier than you think you deserve”
“the very important reason why we choose to love people who cannot love us back”
“you have to be kindest to yourself when it seems least deserved”
“101 things that are more important than what your body looks like”

I’ll give it to the author - some of the points were okay enough that I didn’t rip the pages out; absolutely nothing changed the way I think in the slightest. This book is the bastard child of white feminist Instagram quotes who grew up to be way too many ‘essays’. Can you call lists of the same thing over and over again individual essays?
Probably would have DNF’d if not gifted, so I’m going to adjust the rating down to 1 (from 2) given that I’m still fuming over a year later.

A great collection of essays that reflect many of my core beliefs and values. I'd like to gift my kids a copy each when they enter young adulthood. Great life lessons and thought processes all together in one place.
