Safer does a great job writing page-turning dialogue and immersive details to the setting. While I managed to read this in one day after the initial twist, I felt there was a lost opportunity to capitalize. I recommend this book for those who like suspense and thrillers.

This is a perfect summer thriller. The lead character was right up my alley and her life gave me a bit of a Carrie Fisher feel. The atmosphere was richly described, and the suspense was thick and constant. That initial twist though….really? I tried to suspend disbelief, and while it was effectively creepy, it just felt out of place. That’s the main reason I’m not giving this 4 stars. Still, a very enjoyable read and worth waiting for on the long library hold list.

The first 3/4 of this book I would’ve rated at a 4 star, perhaps even a 5 star. However the plot twist that Sager chose to employ to explain Katherine’s disappearance was completely out of left field. I found it to be ridiculous and honestly upset me. I found the majority of this book to be a quality thriller until the plot twists at the end. I am disappointed by how this book ended.

I did not see the twists coming, which made it fun. Very creepy and unnerving at points.

i don’t think it helped that i had read the woman in the window IMMEDIATELY before reading this but even if i hadn’t… the alcoholic, nosy AF, deeply traumatized woman trope is overdone at this point
