It's been a long time since I read the last instalment, so it took me a while to work out where we were in the story.

Felt this was more twisty and involved than the other books, which made for an interesting read.

SpoilerWow, how much can you make a character dislikeable? Fucking Chard. I could not believe he would stoop so low to poison poor Monty, what the actual fuck. I guess that's one way to get rid of a character. Good riddance.

Felt bad for the Crooks. I'm glad Dixon didn't give up looking for Stella's body and Manners burying her under the pig reminded me of that tumblr post about how to bury a body so it would evade detection.

This is a great series and this the 9th instalment is a great addition to it. One small quibble is that this picks up where book 8 finishes and as I read a lot I struggled to remember the previous plot in detail. That being said a great read with a brilliant unusual main story and I’m loving the character development, it’s like catching up with old friends

Nick Dixon is back and he's trying to figure out who murdered a woman on a construction site for a nuclear power plant.  He finds out that her mother is missing and that there was a great deal of blood at her mother's home.  This again pits Nick against his nemesis Simon Chard.  There is quite a bit of drama and we get to see Nick in a more personal situation.   Jane was not really involved in the case but provided Nick with support when he needed it most.  They are such a wonderful couple.  The case was solved though Nick had to work against the clock because his superiors were under great pressure.  Another really solid entry in this series which I highly recommend.

My love for this series continues! Well researched and with plenty of depth :) I struggled a bit with keeping up with names but that was just me speed reading to find out what was happening!

Can't go wrong with the DI Nick Dixon books. Author knows how to build up suspense -- and pull at heartstrings, not necessarily an easy thing in a police procedural that needs to be realistic. Speaking of the police, the hard work and thoroughness of the investigation Mr. Boyd describes is exemplary, and the plotting second to none in the mystery genre. Just hope that now that things are looking up for Nick, we'll see that continue.
