This was the first book that I’ve read by the author but omg. It’s so good. Loved the characters so much and all the twisted unexpected scenes. This is one of those stories that must be read by any lovers of romance books and I couldn’t recommend it enough!

The Masks We Burn is a stand-alone book in the Emerald Falls Series. It’s the third book, following the story of Amora and William. You can read this book on its own but for maximum reading enjoyment, I recommend reading the first two books beforehand!

We first meet Amora and William in The Masks We Wear and their first meeting was a collision of two very strong people. They don’t get along, at all, and when they are forced to fake an engagement, the walls surrounding their hearts begin to crack.

I love Lee’s writing style. These characters face real challenges and while there are tough moments to read, they preserve and survive. I also love how open Lee is with writing characters who talk to therapists and see therapists and make it normal. It’s okay to talk to someone and I love seeing this depicted in books.

Ah she has done it again. The masks we burn was another fantastic book in the world of Emerald falls. Amora is one strong willed women who is set in her ways but that didn’t stop William from loving her anyway and showing her what real love is like without losing yourself. They make one dominating couple and complement each other perfectly.

I was given an arc I’m exchange for my honest opinion.

Ok so this is my favorite of the emerald falls series. There is just something about William & Amora that I love so much. The way their characters grew apart and then back together. amazing

Enemies to lovers and a fake fiance!

William and Amora met each other once in high school and let's just say it was NOT a positive experience. Now they find themselves working with one another as the maid of honor and best man at the same wedding. On top of that, William needs help only Amora can provide and Amore is desperate for a buffer between her and an overbearing mother determined to see her daughter married to someone well-off as soon as she graduates from college.

The more time they spend together the better they understand one another and the harder it is to deny the growing attraction between them. But can Amora have the independence and self-determination she craves while in a loving relationship? Or does she have to choose between the two?

ARC Review

I went into this one as a standalone, and Jacquot did NOT disappoint! I fell hard for Amora and Will's story right off the bat, falling right into the midst of their enemies to lovers banter.

Amora is a hard-headed female lead that has built her life around not needing anyone to do anything for her, which immediately resonated with me. She needs badly to find some time to figure out what she wants in life on her own before her parent's make her marry for money. That's the last thing she wants to happen.

Will, super stubborn Will, is trying to get over a past injury and just can't get the life back in his lungs no matter how hard he tries. At last, he finds something that makes him feel the fire inside, however is struck down on the opportunity to make it a life.

When fate, and friends, bring her and Will together again after years of mutual dislike the last thing Amora expects is to strike a deal with him to buy more time with her parents.

Follow along as the tension between the two builds into an epic romance , but will the two be too stubborn to admit the feelings between them before the deal is over?

Starting this off by saying I thought I loved the second book the most but BABY do I stand corrected.

This book includes all of our favorite bookish hits including the soothing sounds of:
Enemies to lovers
Fake engagement
Bully/sunshine

William and Amora have the BEST dynamic of couples in this series. The will they won’t they, the tension, YUM. I absolutely loved the banter between the two and the sass from Amora! I identify with her character so much so watching her grow into her own person and break away from tradition was SUCH a joy to read. I was cheering out LOUD for miss girl

I had the honor of receiving an arc for The Masks We Burn (#3 in the Emerald Falls series) in exchange for my review and it did NOT disappoint! Though we aren’t surprised because Miss Lee Jacquot never misses!

This one was good! I’m rating it a 4.5. I still think the second one is the best. The growth in this one was really good! I would definitely recommend this series. Great tiktok find!
