Jay was 16 1/2 when he took his own life with a bullet to the right temple. His journal was given to Dr. Beatrice Sparks by his mother in hopes to raise awareness for other teenagers dealing with depression. In this journal, Jay talks about becoming involved in drugs and the occult, a Satan worshipping group.

The journal is said to be the true diary of this boy although after reading a few other reviews on this website it turns out that this is not the case. It is the journal of a boy named Alden Barrett who Dr. Sparks changed many of the entries and added in some of her own. I thought it was extremely slow and not exciting in anyway. I also feel incredibly sad for the Barrett family who's life was pretty much dishevelled because of this "Doctor".

I do not recommend this book to anyone. It's awful, sad, terrifying, heartbreaking and scary. :(

It was alright, I don't know. It was slow till the very end where it got depressing and scary. I'm pretty much scared for life. Ndb

I think this is the worst book I've ever read. Not only is it boring and involves an annoying main character but after doing some research I found 95% of it wasn't even true. I beg you to research Alden Barrett and not let this book to speak as truth to you.

Before reading the book, I thought the book was going to be about a teen who is dealing with drugs and the problems he faces in his life. But, instead, I got a book about a teen who's madly in love with 2 annoying girls and the involvement of a Satanic group. Plus, Jay didn't really face big problems that came from taking drugs.
Overall, this book is just ridiculous and terrible. To add more to the joke this book is, the book doesn't even stand true to what the author claims it's about.
