Do any of these characters ever just smile? So tired of everyone giving weak smiles. Could be a great book with some editing.

I think I will need some time to process my thoughts to write a full review that even has a chance of being worthy, but this was incredible. I loved both books one and two, but this was on a whole other level. The scale of Epheria, the magic, the lore, the different races and the depth of the history is just incredible. Also, in this book I connected to EVERY single character POV and found myself not simply waiting to get back to a character that I love. Each POV was so strong and beautifully written. The action, the love, the found family, the DRAGONS, the heartbreak... my goodness. This was a behemoth of a book but it earned every page. I am so glad that I read the bulk of this on holiday so I could truly savour it in large chunks. I can't wait to read Ryan's next release.

I’m so obsessed with this series and so excited for the release of the 4th book next month! I just hope my babies make it out alive!! This is a behemoth of a book but once I got myself back into the world I really did fly through this. I didn’t want to put it down and the author makes you really root for the characters even on the different sides of the war (not all of them of course, the villains do villain in this) but the idea that both sides believe they’re fighting for something important in a war isn’t shied away from which I appreciate. Having said that I literally couldn’t love Calen and his core group more. I also love Dayne and can’t wait to see how his side of the story develops- Belina as well was a much appreciated addition. I could go on for hours but basically this didn’t disappoint.

I have so many thoughts and feelings about this book.
I have not felt this way after finishing a novel since Ruin by John Gwynne.
This is the largest book I have ever read but I did not feel for a second like it was dragged out or too long. Every chapter and moment felt necessary and crucial to the story and character development and in the end despite reading over 1400 pages I was left wanting more.
The last 200 pages I was just dreading it ending aware of the major book hangover that was looming while also feeling so much anxiety, fear and excitement over the action happening on the pages.
I have never experienced so many episodes of literal goosebumps while reading a book. I am not an emotional reader and very rarely will show outward emotion while reading. Sure I will have internal emotions happening but they rarely result in physical displays of emotion. This book had me laughing out loud, it had tears rolling down my cheek and had me punching the air in excitement while also needing to put the book down and walk away at times when it all became too much. My wife was wondering what the hell was going on.

This book includes several POV's and multiple characters but you feel so connected to each and every one of them because of the ground work Ryan has put in building up these characters over the previous books and also the extra work that goes into some characters and there POV during this novel. I found my self at times hating the "good guys" and at times laughing along with and understanding the POV of the "bad guys" and at the end of it all I am still not 100% convinced who the true enemy or evil is, Ryan has done a wonderful job making you feel for every character and showing that there is not really a true black or white but just mixes of grey and true evil will really depend on perspective.
There is death in this book in case the title did not give it away and you feel every loss, even the not so nice guys find a way to make you feel for them in final moments and Ryan really does a great job of highlighting the horror of war. There really is no glory to be had here.

Ryan takes multiple POV's that honestly could all be there own novel if he really wanted them to be.
They are for the most part spread out around the world away from each other doing their own thing and fighting their own fights and he quite masterfully weaves them all together.
Like honestly he could write a trilogy just about Dayne Ateres and the Valtaran civil war. he could easily write a novel about the Dwarves and Durakdur or the Lynalion elves. You could easily get a novel or 3 just focused on each POV character and in the end you truly understand why almost 1500 pages was needed. I was actually impressed it was kept under that number.

Honestly this is one of my Favourite books I have ever read.
Ryan is officially one of my favourite authors ever and is right up there with John Gwynne and Joe Abercrombie for me.

I can't wait for book 4 but honestly Ryan take a break and relax. You just pumped out a 1500 page book in less than a year and it was everything I hoped it would be
