This was OK. The last year and a half has definitely not been kind when it comes to anxiety and worry so I gave this book a shot. I do think there is some helpful advice and tips here on how to counterintuitively approach worrying too much (embrace it rather than fight it), but it could have likely been a 20-page book. My general complaint about a lot of 'self-help' type books - they have to be long to be published/sold but often include so much unnecessary exposition to the main point.

Honestly the most helpful piece came toward the very end on worrying about sleep, and some ways to approach sleep differently to avoid chronic insomnia or the worry about sleep actually preventing you from sleeping.

So I got this book from audible thinking that I might need some of the tricks in it. Now I know that I’m living in a more stable time for me, so it didn’t feel as relevant. There were still some tools that I thought I might try for when I did notice worry trying to effect my behavior. I am not sure I can use everything in it, but I do think that people who deal with anxiety might be able to find something new to try after reading this book.

I read the first few lines of this book – the first few lines of Joe’s story – and related immediately. I might be a chronic worrier – one worry leads to another leads to another. It just never stops. Couple that with my incessant overthinking and… yeah. I do feel bad for my future husband at times. However…

I was blown away by how boring this book was and uninformative. It was repetitive at best: finding ten thousand ways to express the same idea is not going to keep me interested in what you have to say since, at the end of the day, you aren’t saying anything new!

At some point in the book, Carbonell says that snapping an elastic band on one’s wrist to ward off negative thinking “ranks high among the worst advice [he has] ever seen in print”. Well, dear Carbonell, your book ranks among the worst I have ever read.

I painfully scrolled through the chapters and tried to keep my jaw in place when it wanted to dislocate from the rest of my face. This book gave me a headache. I might have been helpful to someone but it wasn't helpful to me at all.
