I buy these books because I like to read about forensics. After all, Kay Scarpetta is supposed to be a medical examiner. However, there was very little forensics in this. In fact, hardly any.

I listened to this on Xigxag and the narrator, Susan Ericsson (?) was very aggressive in tone. Not just on Marino but on all characters and it grated after a while.

It seems Cornwell is trying to entice Gen Z with this one but she seems to forget the majority of her readers are more Gen X.

Overall, very disappointed with this one.

A compelling mystery (strange murders involving electric shock that may or may not be the work of a serial killer), but the audiobook reader should not have tried to do a) her impression of developmentally disabled children and b) a Minnesotan accent

In this most recent installment in the saga of Kay Scarpetta, we are embroiled in all kinds of shenanagins. To start, a body is discovered that has an amazing amount of trauma inflicted upon it. Before they get very far in dealing with that crime scene, Kay and Benton start getting mysterious telephone calls from someone who claims to be with Interpol. None of that makes any sense at all. Ultimately, they decide all this nonsense has to do with a (shocker) cyber bully with the stupid name of Tailend Charlie. Even more of a shocker is that technological genius Lucy the Obnoxious cannot seem to trace or discover who is responsible for that. SPOILER AHEAD............I am sick unto death of the whole Carrie and Temple arc. These characters should have been done away with ages ago, right along with Lucy. I had a feeling the whole plot had something to do with those two miscreants, which, of course, it did. I am just over all three of them and the constant internal monologue from Kay about her relationships and this and that and everything else. Every single one of her worst and most annoying qualities are on full display in this book. To date, this surpasses the other few books that I really disliked and is sitting firmly at number one. I just saw an article that said Patricia Cornwell was researching for another Scarpetta book, and I will read it because I have made it this far in this series, but I am looking forward to it a lot less than I probably would have at some point.

Wow!

Absolutely incredible. I was not prepared for that twist at the end at all and I can't wait to see what the next book brings.

I'd give it zero stars if I could. Tedious and boring, filled with unnecessary rambling. And can we please please please move past the recurrent plot of all the bad guys out to get Kay and her family? She's really not that special. I've been unhappy with Cornwell's work for awhile now and I think this book is the last of hers that I'll read. Disappointed.

Måske er jeg bare vokset fra Dr. Kay Scarpetta.

I was a non-reader in school, probably because some of the books I would be forced to read didn’t interest me at all. I started reading the Kay Scarpetta series in my early 20s and truly loved them. Patricia Cornwell is one of the authors that brought out my love of reading as a young adult – I read the 1st 10 books in the series as soon as they were released. She is the reason that while on road trips, if I’m not driving, I’ll keep an eye on the side of the road for dead bodies. Sad, but true. And every time I drive down 64 in VA on my way to/from the beach, I think of her as I drive by a certain rest area that was in one of her books. As my love of reading grew, so did the variety of books I would read so unfortunately I haven’t been able to read all of the recent Dr Scarpetta cases. That didn’t stop me from enjoying this most recent one. I didn’t have all the background information as those who have read all the recent books, but that’s OK. I loved it anyway. I think people would enjoy it more if they’ve been reading some or all of the series, but it can also be a stand alone book.

In this case, a young bicyclist is found dead on the side of a trail in a city park. The body, helmet, and bicycle locations don’t add up and neither do the injuries at first glance. Was it an accident or was she attacked? Earlier that same day, an odd 911 call is received complaining about Dr. Scarpetta plus Det Marino receives an odd phone call as well causing even more confusion. And to add more anxiety to her day, her estranged sister is coming into town from Florida. It’s a whirlwind of a day for Dr. Scarpetta.

Thank you to Sullivan and Partners for an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review. And thank you to Patricia Cornwell for bringing out my love of reading 20+ years ago. I might not have become the avid reader I am today if it weren’t for your novels.

Ugh.

Overall good book. It did take me a while to get through the beginning - which is a lot of background about Scarlett’s and family. If you’re reading book 24, you don’t need that!
