not as horror or thrilling as the tags and things made it seem .. i was actually quite disappointed w the lack of imagery ☹️ but the use of cinema and old technology as a vehicle for magic is sooo cool so that was def intriguing to me and got me through all the slow bits (the entire book besides from the last act ...) and co dependent bi4bi couple OK YOU GOT ME

Sylvia Moreno-Garcia is a very slow boil, which makes it hard to rate pace. First third is slow, secon third is medium, last third is breathless. I preferred Mexican Gothic, but she certainly came up with some interesting images with light and shadow, sound and silence, and the flammability of silver nitrate film.
