I really liked this book a lot. It was not at all what I was expecting. Save for the beginning and the very end, this book was not a mystery/suspense at all. Instead it was a slow slow slowww burn (at times too slow) character study about the consequences of extreme trauma on a person and a community. You’ll need to suspend disbelief at times, but the characters are so raw and beautifully drawn that you forgive any narrative liberties the author takes. It took me a while to get through this one, but it was worth it.

For whatever reason, this book took me so long to finish. Maybe it's the writing style or the slow pace start, but worth finishing.
