DID NOT FINISH: 25%

fui tentar a releitura, mas na real que o livro não faz juz às minhas lembranças e só está me matando de preguiça; pra evitar a ressaca literária, estou tomando a decisão executiva de abrir mão e partir pro próximo

Short quick read with entertainment value

Fun, fast read with an interesting magical theory.

This simultaneously felt too slow and too fast at the same time; which I acknowledge is a weird thing to say but the pacing was… not good and the writing was a lot of “telling not showing”. I felt completely lost in so many places and it honestly felt like the author was trying to hard to mix whimsy with darkness in a forced-classical way.

The concept was interesting, the magic was so different than other historical fantasy/fiction works that I stuck with it to see where things would lead. But the FMC was brash, rude, cocky, and ungrateful for most of the book… and then falls in love with her teacher while on a journey far above her skills to save him, which he seems more annoyed about than anything.

This felt quite juvenile. The action takes place too quickly before we even care about the characters. The love story doesn't belong. It was really repetitive. The main part of the story while she's in his heart seems completely pointless. I like YA fiction, and this wasn't necessarily billed as such, but it was too poorly done to enjoy.
