I enjoyed the ending (even if I did think the losses were a bit lopsided).
Overall, it's a reasonable read. Did it need to be five books long? Not really. A trilogy would have been perfectly acceptable and there was a chance to end it nicely in book 3.
The author seems to have a touch of struggle when it comes to finishing a character arc in a satisfying way - certainly through the book many of the characters simply do not grow (any further) and when there's a chance for Ahmann to really develop, the story comes to an end.
The most interesting thing was the hint of 'Sanderson-like-Mistborn' moment at the end, but it feels like the author isn't quite willing to commit to that (or doesn't have the space to...) and it's simply left as a maybe in the mind.
The fourth book (as written) felt unneeded and the the fifth seemed determined to wrap everything up and then realised it had limited pages left so sped through the end.
I guess most of the expansion I wanted should have happened in Book 4 (I'd take anything to replace the current state of Book 4), so there was time to really let Book 5 focus on the Core. I didn't expect to be 600 pages in before the characters managed to go into the core (they spend many a chapter discussing the if, how, why, what of it all...)
I finished the series because I was four books and 2400+ pages in at that point, but you could easily stop at Book 3 and make up the end on your own!

I'm still digesting , right now I am feel a strong three to a light four on it. more to come.
Ale on celkem líně plyne. Přiznávám, posledních deset stran mě chytlo ..prostě konec, četla jsem skoro bez dechu.
A... dávám čtyři hvězdičky, protože mi prostě celou knihu to NĚCO chybělo, co bylo přítomno v předchozích dílech..
A jedna věc mě vytáčela do varu. Paní překladatelka používá jedno sloveso, které není moc běžné v klasické hovorové češtině, ani v té psané. A když tohle sloveso čtete už po několikáté, začíná to být celkem opruz - zvlášť, když existuje dostatek vhodných synonym, kterými by šlo toto sloveso nahradit. Schválně, nebudu prozrazovat o jaké sloveso jde. A vy, moji knižní přátelé, až dočtete Jádro, zkuste si tipnout, o jaké sloveso jde a napsat mi to :)
Jinak.. Velmi nutně potřebuji, aby Brett napsal něco dalšího a to co nejdřív! :D

What an end to the series! I was devastated that some characters had to sacrifice their lives for the greater good, but that is how heroes are made, right? Die, so that others may live. I kind of think that it was too abrupt an ending, though, like all of a sudden when all the demons died, all human conflicts resolved in an instant. I would have wanted a more solid ending. And I wished they would have emphasized Abban's prowess against the mind demons more, hope it showed itself early on in the story. Ah, a lot of characters I wish they would have developed more like Briar, the Warded Children, even the relationship of Amanvah , Ashia and Silkvah, how did they resolve their issues in the damating palace? So many questions. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed this series.

Why is it so hard for these authors who write otherwise amazing stories and build incredible worlds to stick the landing? Lightbringer, Mistborn Era 2 and this series have stuck with me, not for being bad, but for being great and then disappointing me in the final run-in. Amazing, unique characters and worlds let down in the last half of the last book with lackluster endings that scream out that the author didn't know where they were going and threw together something to meet a deadline or try to wrap up all the remaining plot points and questions in neat package; even though the beauty of their books is often that the stories are a bit grimy and don't have neat, tidy characters and motivations that can be explained with a simple 'and they all lived happily ever after'. Now this isn't quite as egregious as the literal deus ex machina of Weeks, or the 'look, it's the cosmere, aren't I clever?' of Sanderson but it's still a bit of a letdown after five books and many years of exciting tension and character growth.
